Abstract Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodology for assessing environmental burdens throughout life cycle of products from extraction, manufacturing, transportation, use, recycle and disposal by considering ecology, human health, and resource depletion. Results from LCA study can be used as guidelines for designing more environmental friendly products, improving production processes to reduce environmental impacts and to increase efficiency. In order for Thailand to respond and prepare for the increase of competitiveness ability and the trends of sustainable development, it is urgent to begin with primary structure especially primary energy and basic materials. For this research, National database development project will be established to fulfill the requirement of the country to catch the global trends of environmental preservation and to add values in competition or to respond to the increase incompetitiveness ability and the trend of sustainable development. Initially, relevant research papers and current status of Thailand and other countries such as Japan, Korea and USA will be thoroughly reviewed. The expected outputs of this research are the national database of primary energy and basic materials, which include natural gas, fuel oil, petrochemical product, plastic and ceramic.. Moreover, this research proposes to set up network and cooperation between stakesholders on LCA database and to establish the center for database management.
